Of All the People in All the World

I’m actually very sad that I did not have the opportunity to see this in person. I wish there were a photo gallery and/or a list of all of the statistics presented.

Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street

Does it get any better than Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton film?

SYNOPSIS: Johnny Depp and Tim Burton join forces again in a big-screen adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s award-winning musical thriller “Sweeney Todd.” Depp stars in the title role as a man unjustly sent to prison who vows revenge, not only for that cruel punishment, but for the devastating consequences of what happened to his wife and daughter. When he returns to reopen his barber shop, Sweeney Todd becomes the Demon Barber of Fleet Street who “shaved the heads of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard from again.” Joining Depp is Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs. Lovett, Sweeney’s amorous accomplice, who creates diabolical meat pies. The cast also includes Alan Rickman, who portrays the evil Judge Turpin, who sends Sweeney to prison and Timothy Spall as the Judge’s wicked associate Beadle Bamford and Sacha Baron Cohen is a rival barber, the flamboyant Signor Adolfo Pirelli.

All I want for Christmas is Johnny Depp.

Theme Music

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Ever since the Family Guy Episode where Peter gets a theme song, my friends have tried to find theirs. So, this blog post is dedicated to Mark, Tim and “Estebahn”.

I suppose if I had a theme song, I’d want it to be something like Alizée’s Mademoiselle Juliette.

What’s your theme music?

Hey, Lucas: Don’t Do This To Me!

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

George Lucas says he’s planning a television series based on Star Wars. Apparently, major characters won’t be in it, which is definitely a good thing.

But, they’re going to screw it up, and ruin Star Wars for me. I’m a fan. I even once flew out of state for opening night so I could share Star Wars with a (now ex-) boyfriend. I played the MMORPG. I’m happy where I’m at in my relationship with Star Wars. And now Lucas thinks he can go and create a tv series and it won’t affect me? Dude, you’re gonna screw it up, and then Star Wars just won’t be the same.

I’m begging. Don’t do this. Please?

Leg Custody Battle

Monday, October 1st, 2007

I thought that the story about the group trying to get a chimp declared a person was odd. But this one really has me scratching my head, and trying to refrain from bad puns.

I’d heard about the first part the other day – some guy had his leg amputated, and left it in a smoker, because he wanted to be “buried whole” when he died. Apparently, there’s more to the story, now:

A South Carolina man who stored his severed leg in a barbecue smoker that was later auctioned off is locked in a custody dispute with the North Carolina man who found it.

[...]

Whisnant initially gave it to police, who subsequently turned it over to a funeral home when it became clear it was not the result of foul play.

But Whisnant, who put a sign on the empty smoker charging adults $3 and children $1 for a look, now wants the leg back.

[...]

Whisnant, who was unsuccessful in his bid to get the leg from the funeral home, consulted with a lawyer and decided his best move was to persuade Wood to share custody and profits.

So, Whisnant, the guy who found the leg, lost custody of it in court. Oh, it’s so hard not to make a pun here!

What a strange world we live in….

Just to be silly

I love the LOLCats websites, so I had to take this.

If you don’t know LOLCats, prepare to be amused:

LOLCats
Meme Cats (my favorite)
I can has cheezburger?

So, I took a test to find out which LOL Cat I was, and this was the result:

Your Score: Longcat

70% Affectionate, 27% Excitable, 31% Hungry

Protector of truth.

Slayer of darkness.

Loooooong.

Longcat may seem like just a regular lengthy cat, but he is, in fact, looong. For proof, observe the longpic.

It is prophesized that Longcat and his archnemesis Tacgnol will battle for supremacy on Caturday. The outcome will change the face of the world, and indeed the very fabric of lolcatdom, forever.

Be grateful that the test has chosen you, and only you, to have this title.

More than meets the eye

My boyfriend and I took the kids to see Transformers last Sunday. Since the boys are 7 and 9, I wasn’t going to let them see it before I did. But, some other friends saw it, and said they thought both of them would be fine with it.

I’ve got to say – that movie ROCKED! Especially Bumblebee. The story was good, the special effects were good, pretty much everything about it was good. I can’t wait to see it again (very soon!). The only issue I had was the blurry camera during some of the action scenes. I’m hoping that by sitting farther back, that won’t be as bad, but it really is blurry.

I’m debating on getting the toys for my children, but they sure look fun!

On the way home, Preston (my 7-year old) has this conversation with us:

Preston: I just don’t get it, Mom.
Us: Well, see there are good robots and bad robots from another planet…
Preston: No, I mean the DNA. Why did they need DNA?
Us: Ummm, see DNA is what you’re made up of, all of your cells, they’re kind of like Legos, and they all have DNA which is kind of like a book that tells the cell what it should do. So, that’s what DNA is.
Preston (getting irritated): Ugh. I know, Mom. I know what DNA is, but what did it have to do with anything in the movie?

I need to remember I have smart kids.

Anyway, I have no regrets letting them see the movie. They’ve see Star Wars and every Harry Potter (well, we haven’t made it to the newest one, yet), so I didn’t think there was anything in Transformers that they shouldn’t have seen. The violence wasn’t gory, nor was it anything remotely close to something they would experience in real-life, and even though the scorpion was scary, it wasn’t all that creepy. I’m sure not all kids would handle the movie well, but I’m glad I got to see this with them.
