My, Oh, My. John McCain is Predictable. Literally.
Friday, October 10th, 2008It’s only 2 minutes long, and it’s eerie how on-target Obama was with what McCain would say and do.

A long time ago, in a place far, far away, I wrote about Bush giving himself teh power. To remain King of America, and ignore the next president. I only found this blog with a quick search, and I must say that even bringing this up made me feel like some kind of conspiracy theorist. But, respected blogger JM Bell also covered it back then, and he recently covered it again. Just watch the video, will you?
Don’t let this be a close election. Make it overwhelming, and you’ll prevent yourself from being a subject of fear-mongering King George III.

Like Ezra Klein, I just can’t describe this, so I’m going to give you a quote, and ask you to read it.
“In a lot of these communities in big industrial states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, people have been beaten down so long,” he said. “They feel so betrayed by government that when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn’t buy it. And when it’s delivered by—it’s true that when it’s delivered by a forty-six-year-old black man named Barack Obama, then that adds another layer of skepticism.”
Tonight was a special “Utah Call Team Conference Call”, where Emily Murphy and Amy (didn’t catch her last name) gave a quick training of the neighbor to neighbor calling tool available for supporters of Senator Obama to help the campaign. Because Utah is helping drive the effort in Colorado, there were a few special guests on before that training began.
Ray Rivera, the campaign’s Colorado Director, introduced Roy Romer, former Colorado Governor. Roy talked about how we can win Colorado, but we have to reach everyone we can. Every call is critical. Sincere calls from out of state will be effective. He said: “We need you. It will be effective. There’s nothing more important you can do for the campaign.”
Ken Salazar came on and talked about how we can move the votes from 250 to 271 by winning in Colorado, and that win the election.
Amy Klobuchar, Senator from Minnesota, talked about being in Wisconsin with Barack, and is now in Colorado. She told a story about how she got stopped by State Trooper, thinking she’d be given a ticket, and have to “take one for the team”, and found out that it was just because the tags on her license plate were reversed, which was quite a relief to her. She said “You can make a difference, you taking the time out to make these calls WILL make the difference.”
Ray came on again, and said that to win, we need to get 2.5 million Colorado voters to the polls, and we need to reach them at least 2 times to make that happen.
Amy came back on and stressed that nothing is more important right now than reaching out to neighbors, and personalizing Barack’s message.
Emily then led the training, and the first thing she had to say is that if you can make it to Colorado for Get Out The Vote (GOTV), it will be fun.
Emily then walked us through Neighbor to Neighbor tool to show how it’s used. If you come to the Phone Banking set up for this Saturday or Sunday, we’ll be showing you how to use the web tool then, if you bring your laptop with you, or we can give you lists if you don’t have one.
Each state’s call script looks different, so if you switch states, make sure to read the script before you make the call. The web page is simple, and easy to use. You can even do it from home. Peak times are 6 to 9 PM, so if you can make calls during this time, please consider it. Even half an hour is great.
When looking at the script, you don’t need to read it word for word, if it doesn’t feel comfortable. However, each of the questions need to be answered, if possible, so try to make sure to fit them in when talking to the person you’re calling.
You don’t have to call every number you’re given. If you don’t get to the calls, they will go back into the queue.
It gets easier and easier as you use N2N. You’ll probably even start to love making the calls, and it definitely becomes more comfortable after you’ve started.
Amy came back on and asked us to invite friends, family and neighbors to our own house, and pointed out that there’s even a Host Guide available online.
Don’t let November 4 pass you by. Your involvement does matter. Just ask Al Gore.
I normally don’t like to “copycat” other local blogs, and JM Bell posted this a couple of days ago, but I couldn’t help myself. Watch, and sound off with your favorite reason to vote Republican.
For me, my favorite reason to vote Republican is because I want the middle class to disappear. All that hope that I might someday not have to stress over money is just too much stress. At least if the middle class is gone, I won’t have to try anymore. And my kids can relax on their schoolwork, too, since that hope of getting into college won’t be hanging over their heads for the next 10 or 12 years.
Oh, and because… I can.
This is 7 minutes long, but worth every second of your time. Especially the last 2 minutes.
I do have one minor disagreement with Ed from Park City, there at the end, though. He said there’s not much you can do from Utah to help Obama. I disagree. We might not take Utah’s electoral votes, but helping elect Democrats in Utah goes a long way towards helping Obama’s administration, not to mention how it helps Utah become just a little more progressive. So, make sure everyone you know is registered to vote, and then make sure they go vote. And don’t forget to help local candidates with door-knocking. You can also make phone calls through the Neighbor to Neighbor program, right from your home.

Don’t forget, Monday is the last day to Register to Vote By Mail in Utah. If you or a loved one haven’t done this yet, or need to update your address, drop everything you’re doing and visit VoteForChange.com RIGHT NOW! You can’t put it off any longer!
This last week has been an absolute whirlwind in politics, and it’s not showing any signs of slowdown.
First up, you better get your butt over and register to vote, or verify your registration, because in some places, it’s the last day to get registered, and the rest of us have the deadline coming up!
This whole economy thing has the entire country on edge. The Dow is down by a record number of points today. McCain pulled a faux-suspension of his campaign last week to rush to DC to help with the bailout bill, where he was pretty much told to butt out by Harry Reid. He said “bullshit” on national tv while Obama brought up his refusal to meet with Spain, during the debate McCain tried to cancel. The Congressional leaders announced over the weekend that they had finally gotten “the bill” together, but failed to pass it today. Apparently, anyone up for re-election knew they didn’t dare vote for it, and while the Dems pulled together about 140 members to vote for it, the GOP failed their own goals, leaving it to die on the floor. McCain somewhere along the line was claiming credit for getting the GOP to go for it, though I’m not expecting him to claim credit for the failure. The American public feels like they’re getting screwed, which is exactly how they should feel giving up what I read earlier was the greatest single dollar amount for any transaction, ever. Banks are failing left and right, though the only people truly getting screwed for the most part with that, are the shareholders in said banks, thanks to this think called regulation. The conservatives are telling us that the solution to the economic failure due to lack of regulation is to…drumroll, please…..have less regulation. Pretty much everyone agrees something has to be done, but the problem is what to do, and how to get everyone on the same page.
It’s almost enough to make me vote for McCain, because God only knows how anyone is going to clean up this mess and come through it with the American people supporting them. That, of course, is just a passing thought, because Obama is the only candidate that I think really stands a chance at actually fixing this mess in a responsible manner, and not leaving astounding debt for my grandchildren to inherit.
Responsibility. What’s your policy?
I have had a ton of people asking me if we have lawn signs. So, for all of you who still need a lawn sign….
